Pickering Launches Test System Architect Design Tool

Pickering Interfaces has unveiled Test System Architect, a free online graphical toolset that simplifies signal path design for electronic test systems. The platform enables engineers to design, configure, and visualize complete test architectures before deployment streamlining every stage from concept to production.

Test System Architect is the first dedicated graphical design environment built specifically for signal switching and cabling systems.

It brings together a complete suite of tools, including the System Configurator, Schematic Design, Product Selector, and Migration tools, alongside Pickering’s previously released Cable Design and Microwave Switch Design tools all within an integrated workflow.

This intuitive, cloud-based platform lets engineers create detailed schematics, automate cable designs, and configure complex PXI, PXIe hybrid, and LXI/USB-based test systems with ease. Users can incorporate third-party instruments, model DUTs (devices under test), and automatically generate custom cable designs.

Beyond simple configuration, Test System Architect offers full visualization and documentation capabilities designed to speak the language of test engineers in terms of topology and connectivity, not just part numbers.

Built on a robust, central database, the tool unifies design, validation, and collaboration. Integrated error checking ensures design accuracy while eliminating costly rework and delays. Cloud storage and an integrated project manager allow seamless collaboration among global teams, systems integrators, and Pickering engineers.

Version control and revision tracking preserve project history, while automated generation of wiring schematics, pin-to-pin lists, datasheets, BOMs, and visualization models drastically reduces documentation time from hours to seconds.

Additionally, the built-in Migration Tool simplifies upgrades from legacy VXI and GPIB systems to modern PXI architectures, ensuring long-term design sustainability and continued support.

With Test System Architect, engineers gain a powerful, end-to-end solution for creating, validating, and documenting test systems faster and with greater confidence than ever before.

“Pickering is already recognized as the value leader in PXI. But hardware typically represents less than half of the total cost of an automated test system,” explains Kyle Voosen, Product Marketing Manager at Pickering. “The greater challenge for our customers lies in the engineering, integration, and assembly effort required to deliver those systems into production. Test System Architect directly addresses this challenge by making the signal path explicit and architecturally visible earlier in the design process, resulting in faster system development, fewer integration errors, and a more predictable deployment schedule.”
