OV50M40 is the Newest Image Sensor From OMNIVISION

The OV50M40 is the newest image sensor that OMNIVISION has added to its extensive line of mobile products. The OV50M40 is a versatile 0.61-micron (µm) pixel CMOS image sensor with 50-megapixel (MP) output that incorporates cutting-edge technologies for front, main, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras in smartphones. It also has features like always-on low power, single exposure dual analog gain (DAG), and video HDR.OV50M40 versatile 0.61-micron (µm) pixel CMOS image sensor the volt post

Both DAG HDR and staggered HDR techniques are supported by the OV50M40. By extending the dynamic range, staggered HDR enhances the quality of both still and video capture. Additionally, the addition of built-in DAG supports single-exposure HDR, which lowers motion artifacts in difficult lighting situations.

The OV50M40 image sensor’s 4-cell binning of its 0.61µm pixel size, integrated sophisticated noise reduction technology, and support for high-gain modes allow it to perform exceptionally well in low light. With 4-cell binning resolution, it may get an analog gain of up to 64 times.

“There is increasing demand for small form factor 50MP resolution image sensors in smartphone applications, including front, main, ultra-wide and telephoto cameras,” said James Liu, senior product marketing manager, OMNIVISION. “Our new OV50M40 image sensor can provide mobile phone OEMs with a single camera solution with the performance and features that can satisfy multiple applications, simplifying the supply chain and reducing cost.”

The OV50M40 Supports:

  • Phase detection autofocus (PDAF) for both binning and full resolution modes with hardware re-mosaic on platform, which ensures high-quality telephoto camera crop-zoom performance.
  • It supports the always-on function for motion detection and ultra-low power.
  • The OV50M40 can consistently capture high-quality images with rear-facing or front-facing cameras, and it enables 2x or 3x high-quality crop-zoom for telephoto cameras with fast mode switch.

The PureCel®Plus-S stacked-die technology from OMNIVISION, which powers the OV50M40, enables high-resolution 50MP with small 0.61µm pixels. With 4-cell binning and a 12.5MP preview and still capture, the sensor delivers 4x sensitivity, or approximately 1.22µm equivalent pixel performance.OV50M40 versatile 0.61-micron (µm) pixel CMOS image sensor the volt post

It can focus on 50MP images at 12 frames per second (fps), 12.5MP images at 60 fps, 4K2K images at 60 fps, and 1080p images at 120 fps. It is available in a 1/2.88-inch optical size and is dual DOVDD 1.8/1.2V compatible with the CPHY/DPHY MIPI interface.

Availability

It is available for sampling in Q3 2024, with mass production in Q4 2024.
