To bolster its automotive SDV capabilities, NXP announced lately that it has agreed to pay $625 million to acquire Austria’s TTTech Auto.
While TTTech Auto produces safety-focused “middleware,” or software that helps an automobile’s operating system interface with apps and roll out upgrades without interfering with essential tasks, NXP is one of the leading suppliers of automotive processors.
In a statement, NXP executive Jens Hinrichsen said, “This acquisition combines NXP’s automotive portfolio with a leading global player in safety software solutions.”
As its automaker customers increasingly consider software, rather than hardware, to determine a vehicle’s design, the company stated that the move was intended to bolster NXP’s offerings.
Hinrichsen, the general manager of automotive embedded systems at NXP, said the buy would help the company become the “leading provider of intelligent edge systems” in cars. If the all-cash deal is approved, Vienna-based TTTech, its management and 1,100 employees will join NXP’s automotive arm.
Based in Vienna, Austria, TTTech Auto is a leading player in developing novel middleware and safety-critical systems for software-defined vehicles (SDVs). Numerous top automakers have partnered with TTTech Auto, allowing them to concentrate on the driving experience while its solutions maximize software updates, performance, safety, and integration.
In March 2024, NXP unveiled its NXP CoreRide platform in an effort to take advantage of this huge market opportunity and facilitate the automakers’ quick switch to SDVs. NXP’s S32 vehicle compute, networking, and system power management are all included in the NXP CoreRide platform.
The first open SDV platform in the industry, NXP CoreRide was created specifically to remove obstacles to software and hardware integration and to reduce complexity, scalability, and expense. TTTech Auto augments NXP’s hardware proficiency with extra software experience, giving a uniquely competent platform from which manufacturers may create SDVs.
When NXP introduced its cutting-edge SDV platform in March 2024, TTTech Auto became a member of the network of NXP CoreRide software partners. By incorporating TTTech Auto’s safety and integration capabilities, NXP will significantly streamline SDV development efforts for automakers and provide even greater hardware/software integration benefits for the worldwide network of NXP CoreRide partners.
