A BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) with a focus on Semiconductor Design and Technology has been launched by NorthCap University (NCU), Gurugram, in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

In line with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), which seeks to position India as a worldwide semiconductor hub, this strategic program attempts to meet the rising demand for qualified workers in the nation’s semiconductor industry.
Students enrolled in this industry-aligned program receive thorough academic instruction as well as practical experience in the design, manufacture, and testing of semiconductors. The curriculum, which was created in collaboration between NCU and IIT Mandi, combines cutting-edge theoretical ideas with practical implementations to guarantee that graduates have the abilities needed by the semiconductor sector.
The six intense training modules at IIT Mandi’s advanced semiconductor labs, which span six semesters and give students hands-on experience with VLSI design, chip manufacturing, and semiconductor testing, are a major focus of the program.
In order to guarantee that students are prepared for the workforce after graduation, the program uses a hybrid learning paradigm, with IIT Mandi academics providing specialized courses and NSDC facilitating industrial internships, skill development financing, and employment possibilities.
The partnership between NCU, IIT Mandi, and NSDC combines industry-driven training, government funding, and academic quality in a groundbreaking move to fortify India’s semiconductor ecosystem. In order to improve academic recognition and employability, graduates will acquire certifications from IIT Mandi and their earned credits will be transferable to NCU.
Leadership Comments
Prof. Nupur Prakash, Vice-Chancellor of NCU, emphasized the transformative impact of the programme, stating, “At The NorthCap University, we are committed to shaping the future of semiconductor education in India. This programme is not just about technical expertise—it is about empowering the next generation of engineers to drive India’s ambitions in semiconductor self-reliance and global leadership.”
Dr. Tushar Jain, Head of CCE at IIT Mandi, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “Centre for Continuing Education at IIT Mandi, in collaboration with NSDC and The NorthCap University, has taken a pioneering step in addressing the critical need for skilled manpower in the semiconductor sector. By fostering collaboration and innovation, we are building a robust talent pipeline that will drive India’s semiconductor ecosystem forward.”
Shri Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO of NSDC and MD of NSDC International, reinforced the programme’s alignment with national priorities, stating, “The NorthCap University’s launch of the BTech ECE in Semiconductor Design and Technology is a milestone initiative that perfectly aligns with India’s Semiconductor Mission. This programme will not only enhance employability but also cultivate future leaders in India’s semiconductor revolution.”
India’s Semiconductor Market
India is expected to have a semiconductor market worth over $100 billion by 2030, so this program will be essential to building a workforce with the necessary skills to support the nation’s semiconductor goals.
This program will guarantee that Indian talent is at the forefront of technological innovation and self-reliance while multinational behemoths like Vedanta-Foxconn, Tata Electronics, Intel, Qualcomm, and Micron continue to invest in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
