The National Deep Tech Startup Policy (NDTSP) seeks to establish a supportive environment by addressing the issues that deep tech startups face through significant regulatory changes. The NDTSP establishes the framework for the developing Deep Tech Startup ecosystem in India by recognizing the critical role that deep technology plays in fostering innovation, economic expansion, and societal advancement.
The Empowered Technology Group (ETG), chaired by the senior scientific advisor to the Indian government, has lately approved the draft. “Timely policy advice on the latest technologies; mapping of technology and technology products; commercialization of dual-use technologies developed in national laboratories and government R&D organizations, and others” is the stated goal of the 12-member Technology Group.

NDTSP will help deep tech startups, safeguard India’s economic future, advance the country’s transition to a knowledge-driven economy, and increase output.

This strategy is being formulated in collaboration with important stakeholders and overseen by the Office of Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. In order to create consensus among the stakeholder groups about the policy priorities for the deep tech ecosystem, the Office also acts as a catalyst.
A draft version of the National Deep Tech Startup Policy (NDTSP) has been developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultative process that includes startups, incubation centers, industry associations, academic institutions, and relevant government agencies.
The process was overseen by the Expert Working Group and the National Consortium, according to its official release.
Several priority-setting meetings at the National Consortium and Working Group levels, consultative workshops with deep tech startups based in academic innovation and incubation centers in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi, multi-stakeholder roundtables and debates, targeted group discussions with subject matter experts and technology policy researchers, and individual thought leaders in this field were all part of the consultation and drafting process.
The framework of the policy was greatly influenced by these consultations, which also ensured that it was relevant to the goals and demands of the deep tech ecosystem. The feedback from more than 200 stakeholders both inside and beyond the deep tech startup ecosystem has informed the proposed policy.
