The new versions of high-voltage MLCCs support 500Vac (r.m.s.) and have obtained safety standard certification for class Y2/X1, whereas the previous KCA series had a safety-certified voltage of 250Vac (r.m.s.).

Additional models of metal terminal surface-mount multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) that meet safety standards class Y2/X1 have been added to Murata Manufacturing‘s KCA lines.
The new additions provide a higher rated voltage and, for some capacitance values, a lower profile (low height) in comparison to the current KCA series devices.
Higher voltage needs are growing in automotive powertrains and safety-related equipment due to increased electrification in the electric vehicle (EV) market. These systems’ constituent parts must function dependably under high-voltage loads.
Additionally, three-phase AC power sources are being used more often in home EV battery chargers, which also require high-voltage capability.
The recently released models have received a design revision to enable operation at higher voltages in order to satisfy this market need. The new versions of high-voltage MLCCs support 500Vac (r.m.s.) and have obtained safety standard certification for class Y2/X1, whereas the previous KCA line had a safety-certified voltage of 250Vac (r.m.s.).
Because of the updated design, some capacitance values have a smaller profile than those of earlier models, allowing for installation in environments with more limited space. Additionally, these additions help long-term cost reduction goals by being delivered at a lower cost than current alternatives.
Key features include:
- Safety standard class Y2/X1 certification with a rated voltage of 500Vac (r.m.s.)
- All capacitance values achieve reduced height compared to preceding equivalents, except for 3300pF and 6800pF units
- More competitive pricing compared with existing KCA series models
