The Linux Foundation’s SONiC (Software for Open Networking in the Cloud) network operating system now has the Marvell Teralynx 10 51.2 Tbps Ethernet switch device available immediately, according to a statement from Marvell Technology. Leading networking companies can now use and implement Teralynx 10-based systems in SONiC environments with this public release.
With the lowest documented latency in the world, the programmable 51.2 Tbps Teralynx 10 switch offers customers industry-leading performance for workloads including general-purpose compute, inference, training, and other tasks that grow cloud data center accelerated infrastructure. Why Operators of Cloud Data Centers Shifting Towards Open-Network Software Platforms
Operators of cloud data centers have switched to open-network software platforms as they can customize networking systems for their unique use cases, expedite the development of new features, and deploy a wide range of silicon vendors. Their platforms must run open-network software, and SONiC satisfies this requirement with a single, universal programming model that works with a variety of hardware configurations.
With SONiC being deployed by seven out of the top ten cloud service providers, it is quickly emerging as the preferred worldwide network operating system (NOS). The 650 Group estimates that the hardware and software income from SONiC systems will increase from $4.5 billion in 2024 to $8.0 billion in 2028, representing a 25% compound annual growth rate.
Marvell has chaired the platform working group and as a member of several technical committees in addition to holding a place on the governing board of SONiC. Marvell has contributed more than just the Teralynx switch. SONiC, which runs on Arm®-based systems, lowers customer TCO by doing away with pricey hardware components and reduces power needs.
