Extreme heat of several hundred degrees can happen in several industries. A safe and reliable power source is necessary even in these extreme temperatures, as are cables and conductors that can tolerate the high temperatures. LAPP is introducing a cable that can withstand temperatures of up to 700° Celsius with the new ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC. 
“Normal” cables, such as those with a PVC sheath, are likewise adequate in areas with “normal” temperatures. They can be used in factories or industrial plants with more typical temperatures because they are often made to withstand maximum temperatures of between 70 and 90 degrees Celsius.
However, heat-resistant wires are needed anywhere temperatures consistently surpass 100° Celsius. Sophisticated design for optimum protection
The cable’s structure and well-balanced materials are responsible for its heat resistance. LAPP’s new single-core cable uses nickel-plated copper conductors instead of the pure nickel used in its predecessor’s strands. A glass fiber braid and several glass fiber coverings make up the cable’s insulation.
“We have optimised the structure over the last few years,” explains Product Manager Felix Graner. “The interplay of both factors, i.e. the strands and the insulation, makes the temperature peak shift possible.” Compared to a pure nickel conductor, the fine-stranded, nickel-plated copper conductor also achieves better electrical conductivity, higher dielectric strength and also allows smaller conductor cross-sections to be selected than with its predecessor. The halogen-free and flame-retardant material composition reduces the risk of fire propagation in the event of a fire.
Wherever fixed installation and wiring are needed and energy and temperature levels are very high, single-core cables are utilized. For instance, in steelworks, smelting facilities, foundries, heating modules, electric cookers, the chemical sector, or the building of machinery and equipment. The voltage range for the new product is 300/500 volts.
