Using ETSI-specified energy measurement techniques, Keysight Technologies has made it possible for Pegatron 5G to test and validate its Open Radio Unit (O-RU) advanced energy savings features. Open Radio Access Network Architect Solutions (KORA) from Keysight, which guarantees compliance, interoperability, performance, security, and energy efficiency validation for radio access network (RAN) testing, was used to do this.
The Importance of E-Plane Testing
Since the RAN uses 76% of the energy, increasing efficiency is a top strategic goal for operators. Testing energy usage and how it affects network performance is therefore essential.
Improvements have been made from 2G to 5G, however as 5G networks get denser to accommodate growing data demands, consumption will rise, affecting sustainability objectives and operational costs. In order to improve network efficiency for 5G and upcoming network deployments, e-plane testing assists manufacturers and operators in network optimization.
Pegatron 5G was able to meet O-RAN energy saving requirements and the ETSI ES 202 706-1 and ETSI TS 103 786 energy measurement methods while achieving a 40% reduction in power consumption by using Keysight’s E-Plane ETSI Test Suites to assess the energy efficiency of its PR1450 O-RU solution. This will guarantee adherence to environmental goals and drastically lower network running expenses. At the 2024 India Mobile Congress, the capability was showcased.
