“Buildings contribute nearly 40% of global emissions and new levels of efficiency and sustainability can only be achieved through digitalization,” said Johnson Controls Chief Technology Officer Vijay Sankaran. “This recognition that OpenBlue digital technology and services is the overall market leader is a testament to the ongoing dedication and commitment to innovation that we have to creating the smart buildings of the future.”

ABI Research conducted a thorough evaluation of nine prominent commercial building platforms that have the ability to digitize, capture, manage, monitor, and enhance performance across various commercial building sectors, applications, and portfolios.

These findings were further validated in ABI Research’s report, 55 Technology Leaders To Watch In 2024.

Among these providers, Johnson Controls emerged as the top scorer due to its strong dedication in supporting both existing and new clients through its highly efficient OpenBlue platform and associated services. Here, researchers noted:

  • The clear and long-standing commitment of Johnson Controls to serving the smart building management segment.
  • The comprehensive Johnson Controls OpenBlue suite of offerings that will help drive wide-scale smart building management awareness and adoption.
  • The company’s commitment to supporting customers with its highly functional OpenBlue platform and related services.

“Johnson Controls was the overall leading vendor in ABI Research’s market assessment. The Johnson Controls OpenBlue architecture represents a cohesive and comprehensive suite of offerings to accelerate smart building management, build awareness and increase adoption of smart buildings,” said Rithika Thomas, Industry Analyst at ABI Research.

Defining Johnson Controls OpenBlue Ecosystem

Johnson Controls OpenBlue represents a cutting-edge ecosystem of interconnected technologies, knowledge, and services.

Evaluated in this study, OpenBlue Enterprise Manager (OBEM) consists of a set of software solutions that create a comprehensive platform for managing building performance, enabling the development of a new generation of intelligent buildings that are safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly.

By aggregating data from various building systems and utility bills, and utilizing advanced digital interfaces enhanced with AI, OBEM offers actionable insights for cost savings and emission reduction that surpass what can be achieved with separate, less integrated systems, all while ensuring occupant comfort. Moreover, it assists clients in streamlining carbon disclosure reporting and complying with building performance regulations.

With implementations worldwide in commercial office spaces, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, campuses, and more, OBEM allows for real-time visibility of data across assets, individuals, and processes, empowering clients to manage intelligent and proactive operations through a unified interface.
