John Crane Partners on Equipment Reliability Framework

John Crane and a major international energy firm have signed a significant Global Framework Agreement (GFA), formalizing a long-term relationship aimed at enhancing equipment reliability, standardizing performance across worldwide operations, and tackling important seal management concerns.

John Crane, energy firm GFA on Tackling Seal management

The operator had been trying to change its strategic focus from equipment availability to long-term reliability for a number of years.

At several locations, irregular reliability performance and preventable downtime were caused by variations in sealing technology, varying service levels across regions, and fragmented supplier models. The client needed a single, worldwide strategy that would give high-criticality equipment uniformity, accountability, and measurable improvement.

John Crane successfully implemented a systematic Managed Reliability Programme (MRP) at one of the operator’s flagship refineries, which is currently regarded as its best-performing site for seal reliability, demonstrating its capacity to address these issues.

Significant performance improvements resulted from the program’s introduction of standardized reliability approaches, proactive failure prevention, and stricter lifecycle control. The operator’s worldwide executive team sought a more comprehensive, long-term arrangement as a result of this success.

A wide range of sealing technologies and lifecycle services, including as pump mechanical seals, compressor dry gas seals, seal support systems, reliability programs, field service engineering, failure analysis, and training, will be offered by John Crane within the multi-year framework. The customer receives a uniform dependability model from all participating facilities as part of the agreement.

John Crane, energy firm GFA on Tackling Seal management Through this unified approach, the customer will benefit from:

• Improved operational reliability and uptime, driven by consistent application of reliability methodologies
• Proactive failure prevention, supported by structured lifecycle programmes and technical governance
• Reduced complexity, through consolidation of sealing and service expertise
• Stronger compliance with international standards, including API and wider industry guidance
• More efficient long-term planning, enabled by harmonised service delivery and predictable technical support.

The GFA also aligns with the customer’s ambition to streamline supplier engagement and strengthen global reliability governance across its asset base. The agreement creates a pathway for expanded dry gas seal support, enhanced lifecycle optimisation and broader reliability improvements across multiple regions.

Leadership Comments

“Our customers operate some of the most complex equipment in the world, and achievingJohn Crane, energy firm GFA on Tackling Seal management reliability at scale requires consistency, discipline and strong technical partnership,” said Philippe Lambert, Vice President, Commercial & Service at John Crane. “Through this agreement, we will support the customer in building a unified, global reliability framework that reduces operational risk, improves uptime and ensures their critical rotating equipment performs predictably and efficiently.”
