To make their trapped-ion quantum processing units (QPUs) the brains of the most advanced quantum computers, Infineon innovates with a committed team.

Since 2017, the firm has made investments in this area, using its knowledge of high-volume processing technologies and creating new technologies, such as control electronics and integrated photonics, to help their partners increase the number of qubits in their machines.

The hardware method used by Quantinuum involves trapping charged atoms in electromagnetic fields so that lasers and microwave signals may be used to manipulate and encode them with information.

Higher fidelities and longer coherence durations are two clear advantages of this architecture over existing quantum devices.
