The newest line of high-performance Arm Cortex-M33 based microcontrollers (MCUs), PSOC Control, has been introduced by Infineon Technologies. With the help of ModusToolbox’s system design tools and software, developers can easily create motor control and power conversion systems that are high-performance, highly efficient, and secure.
The Entry and Main Line solutions from PSOC Control C3 provide a compatible and scalable variety of memory, performance, and feature options.
The requirements of focus applications, including light electric vehicles (LEVs), robots, industrial drives, home appliances, solar, and HVAC systems, are met by specialized MCUs for motor control (C3M) and power conversion (C3P).
Infineon’s New PSOC Control C3 Microcontrollers Enable:
- Real-time control of systems that need to respond to real-time events with minimal delay and low utilization.
- With powerful Arm® Cortex®-M33 operate at up to 180 MHz and are supported by a Digital Signal Processor (DSP), a Floating-Point Unit (FPU) and the Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer (CORDIC), a hardware accelerator for mathematical functions to speed up control loop calculations.
- All MCUs feature a wide range of peripherals, on-chip memory, as well as various interfaces and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) architectures.
While Main Line MCUs (C3P5 and C3M5) also provide high-resolution PWMs (HRPWMs), PSOC Control Entry Line MCUs (C3P2 and C3M2) use high-resolution and high-precision A/D converters and timers to enable high-performance systems to react to real-time events with the least amount of delay.
The Main Line devices offer more sophisticated functionality for higher switching frequencies and compatibility for power systems that use Wide Bandgap (WBG) switches, but all four series enable the execution of power and motor control loops.
Strong safety features including Class B and SIL 2 safety libraries and PSA Certified Level 2 / EPC2 security are included with PSOC Control C3 MCUs. IP protection and device firmware updates are made possible via the crypto accelerator, TrustZone, and secure key storage.
ModusToolbox, a unified ecosystem platform with software and tool solutions, supports PSOC Control. For applications with an emphasis on PSOC Control, ModusToolbox provides specialized ecosystems and software libraries called Motor Suite and Power Suite.
The suites offer real-time parameter monitoring for insightful data on performance, efficiency, and dependability, as well as a smooth graphical user interface that simplifies training and evaluation. With the use of specialized application environments, engineers can improve overall functionality, optimize designs, and spot problems fast.
Infineon will be showcasing a demo of the new PSOC Control MCUs at Embedded World 2025 in Nuremberg at the Infineon booth (hall 4A, booth #138).
Availability
The PSOC Control C3 Entry and Main Line features 34 devices that are available now. Infineon will further expand these product lines and is developing a Performance Line that will sample later this year.
