With the addition of in-house photonics integration, packaging, and system testing capabilities, indie Semiconductor expanded its photonics portfolio.indie Semiconductor expands photonics portfolio The Volt post

With the help of the most recent in-house advanced automated assembly, packaging, and optical test capabilities, along with a class-leading optical component portfolio from its previous acquisitions of TeraXion and EXALOS, indie Semiconductor is now able to provide customers with complete photonics sub-systems for quick solution evaluation, pre-production validation, and low volume production.

Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) sensing, head-up displays, gyroscopes, and a number of related industrial segments that require comparable precision, quality, and reliability performance to the automotive sector are all supported by this strategic capability.

Optical Components in The Automotive Industry

According to S&P Global Mobility, the market for optical components in the automotive industry alone was valued at $6.5 billion in 2023 and is expected to reach an astounding $9.2 billion by 2030.

By allowing system integrators and OEMs to practically and quickly deploy optics-enabled capabilities into their user-end applications with higher reliability and significantly simplified supply chain logistics, the integration of these discrete optical components—such as lasers, Superluminescent Emitting Diodes (SLEDs), photodiodes, and gratings—into photonic sub-systems generates significant additional value.indie Semiconductor expands photonics portfolio The Volt post

Key Comments

“indie semiconductor has built a world-class optical components portfolio through targeted acquisition and organic growth. In our engagements with key customers, a consistent request to indie – beyond supplying innovative optical components – has been to also solve their component integration, reliability and supply chain logistics challenges by offering complete photonics sub-systems,” said Mathieu Drolet, Executive VP of indie’s Photonics Business Unit. “Our turnkey photonic design, integration and full-system test capability will help unlock time-to-market and commercial deployment opportunities for a broad customer and segment base.”

The first production deployments are expected in the first half of 2025, and Indie is presently working on commercial photonics integration solutions for a number of clients.
