This is in line to mark major impetus in the Indian semiconductor Industry – striving to become a major player in the global semiconductor manufacturing arena.

This is because de-risking efforts by the world’s top electronic manufacturers, targeted government programs, and the country’s talent pool, according to a research from TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship.

Anticipated to reach $100 billion in industry size by 2030, the increase is expected to create around 1 million employment worldwide by 2025–2026, in line with India’s larger goals for industrial and economic growth.

In order to address skill shortages at various entry-level job levels including in the Indian semiconductor Industry, the Electronics Sector Skill Council (ESSC) now provides over 35 apprenticeship courses under the National Apprenticeship Promotion plan (NAPS) plan.

The TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship is actively working with academic institutions, governmental organizations, and business executives to close this gap and further assist the growth of Indian semiconductor Industry.

The CEO of TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship, Ramesh Alluri Reddy, emphasized the need of creating jobs in India, particularly in view of the $15 billion investment in three semiconductor factories. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program and the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) are the causes of this investment.

“Advancements in AI-driven technologies are pushing India towards higher-value activities in the semiconductor industry. AI-powered chip design and smart manufacturing are creating a demand for professionals skilled in artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G,” said Reddy. Building an ecosystem for higher value creation activities and cultivating a competent workforce through degree apprenticeships and training programmes is crucial to establish India as a significant player, the report mentioned. The PLI scheme, in particular, offers a $1.7 billion incentive package for companies establishing semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the country.
