Honeywell is teaming up with IIT Bombay to launch the IITB-Honeywell Centre of Excellence for Future Skills & Innovation, fully funded by Honeywell’s philanthropic arm in India, the Hometown Solutions India Foundation. It’ll come packed with innovative labs, equipment, custom curricula, and research grants to supercharge skills in sustainability.
In the first two months, IITB-Honeywell roll out core infrastructure, craft a targeted curriculum, and train 250 students to kick things off. Certificate programs will mix classroom sessions with hands-on projects tackling real sustainability hassles, open to undergrads, postgrads, and PhD students nationwide. After the pilot, expect around 20,000 students a year diving into the structured courses.
India’s digital boom especially in energy is creating a massive gap in sustainability pros who blend tech savvy with cross-disciplinary know-how.
The Economic Survey 2023-24(1) pegs 3.4 million green jobs needed by 2030, while renewables alone could face a 1.2 million worker shortage now, ballooning to 1.7 million by 2027 per TeamLease(2).

Every student puts in 40 hours across these areas, blending IITB faculty lessons with industry expertise and Honeywell staff volunteering as mentors for tech guidance and career prep. The setup runs through 2030.
This ties right into Honeywell India’s ‘Saksham’ skilling push, which trains STEM students across the country in AI, cybersecurity, and sustainability but here at IITB, it’s laser-focused on building tomorrow’s green leaders.
