The Italian Hyperloop Project by HyperloopTT Enters Operational Stage

A feasibility study for ‘Hyper Transfer’, a carry cargo and passenger hyperloop prototype that would be the first commercial hyperloop system in the world to connect Venice-Mestre and Padua, Italy, was revealed by HyperloopTT last year.HyperloopTT Hyper Transfer hyperloop project the volt post 1

As HyperloopTT and its partners work to make hyperloop transportation a commercial reality, the Hyper Transfer hyperloop project has now formally finished its feasibility study phase.

Governor Luca Zaia, President of Veneto, made the announcement at the Transport Logistic 2025 fair in Munich, declaring: “It is not a futuristic vision but a concrete project born in Veneto… A revolutionary technology, strongly desired by the Veneto Region, which is now entering its operational phase.”

The feasibility study has been validated by both the University of Padua and Italferr (the design company of Ferrovie dello Stato), confirming the project’s viability using existing or tested technologies that are ready for industrialisation. This isn’t theoretical anymore- it’s engineering fact.HyperloopTT Hyper Transfer hyperloop project the volt post

The first test track in Veneto, which will run roughly 10 km between Padua and Venice, is currently being built as the project enters its next crucial stage. On a 1:1 scale, Governor Zaia emphasized that this is “a key step: from the concept to the field verification, of the technologies used.”

The Los Angeles-based transportation and technology licensing firm HyperloopTT, which has been aiming for this milestone since 2013, is part of the formidable consortium that made this accomplishment possible. The group consists of:

  • HyperloopTT as the technology provider and designated designer
  • Webuild (Italy’s largest engineering contractor and global construction leader)
  • Leonardo (multinational aerospace, defense, and security giant)
  • Hyperloop Italia (HyperloopTT’s Italian licensee)

Every component, including safety systems, energy management technology, and passenger and cargo capsules, will undergo extensive testing on the test track.

When Hyper Transfer is operational, it will significantly cut down on emissions, energy use, and traffic congestion while shortening travel times between Padua and Venice-Mestre. Because of its extendable design, the system has the potential to completely transform transportation throughout the Veneto area.

HyperloopTT’s journey to this milestone began when their consortium “Hyper Builders” won the successful bid in June 2023 for a tender issued by Venetian Motorway Concession (CAV).HyperloopTT Hyper Transfer hyperloop project the volt post 1

This followed a memorandum of understanding between Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure, CAV, and the Veneto region. As HyperloopTT CEO Andrés de León stated at the project’s launch: “This is the moment HyperloopTT has been working towards since 2013.”
