Honeywell and TotalEnergies Launch AI Trial at Port Arthur Refinery

Honeywell and TotalEnergies established a partnership for the current trial of Honeywell’s AI-assisted Experion Operations Assistant at TotalEnergies’ Port Arthur Refinery in Texas. In addition to offering the chance to increase operational autonomy, the program aims to assist and empower operators to make prompt, well-informed decisions.

AI Experion Operations Assistant is a cutting-edge AI-powered solution built on Honeywell’s flagship distributed control system that is intended to revolutionize how operators oversee plant operations from the control room. The technology enables a more effective workflow inside crucial refinery operations by combining operational data with real-time predictive insights.

By integrating this new approach, control room operators may reduce the risks of unsafe operations and production losses by anticipating possible maintenance events before they occur.

At the Delayed Coking Unit (DCU) at the Port Arthur plant, TotalEnergies has already started an initial trial of Experion Operations Assistant.

Operators were able to promptly take corrective action prior to an event because the forecasts were made an average of 12 minutes before an alarm occurred.

TotalEnergies’ Port Arthur Platform, which is situated in Southeast Texas close to the Gulf Coast, refines crude oil into transportation fuels and creates petrochemicals that are utilized in a variety of goods, including rubber, plastics, and medications. Honeywell, TotalEnergies’ Port Arthur platform, and its technological headquarters division OneTech have collaborated successfully on the trial.
