This move is part of the company’s accelerated “China-for-China” strategy, designed to better serve both domestic and international clients operating in China’s dynamic automotive and industrial sectors.

By localizing manufacturing, GlobalFoundries eliminates the need for its customers to redevelop or requalify their chip designs when shifting production to different fabs, streamlining supply for customers who demand reliability and fast market entry.

The U.S.-based foundry will maintain tight control over intellectual property and quality, while leveraging its existing customer network in the Chinese market, which has already resulted in design wins for applications such as battery management and radar systems over the past year.

Industry leaders note a rising trend: Chinese clients are not only seeking local supply security but are also turning to GlobalFoundries as a global dual-sourcing partner to serve markets outside China using the same chip designs. This partnership marks a significant commitment to China’s EV and smart vehicle ecosystems—fields where semiconductor localization is increasingly valued for supply chain resilience and strategic autonomy.

GlobalFoundries, Chinese Foundry Partners for CMOS SemiDespite a challenging outlook for consumer demand, GlobalFoundries remains optimistic that this collaboration—and ongoing investment in next-generation auto and AI chips—will set a new benchmark for how global foundry players integrate into Asia’s fast-evolving manufacturing landscape.
