Meet the Industry’s First 20 Gbps Universal USB Peripheral Controller

The programmable USB peripheral controller EZ-USB FX20, has been added by Infineon Technologies to its lineup of EZ-USB product line. The company in its official release states that the new addition makes it possible for developers to design USB devices that craves for hisghest performance for new applications such as AI and image processing.Infineon EZ-USB FX20 USB Peripheral Controller for AI The Colt POst

With USB 20 Gbps and LVDS interfaces, the EZ-USB FX20 peripheral controller provides high-speed connectivity, boost overall bandwidth by up to six times compared to the EZ-USB FX3, its predecessor.

Key Specs and Features Include:

  • The EZ-USB FX20 comes in a 10 x 10 mm² BGA package and requires little PCB space.
  • Enables BOM optimization and is ideal for space-constrained applications.
  • Supports direct USB-C connection without a high-speed signal multiplexer, simplifying the design process.
  • Quick-start development kit includes firmware and a configuration tool for easy integration.
  • Standard FPGA Mezzanine Card (FMC) connector for easy connection to Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) cards and an all-in-one programming and debugging accessory card.
  • The peripheral controller offers a comprehensive set of application notes for hardware and software design to simplify the development of high-performance devices for various applications.

Two ARM® Cortex®-M4 and M0+ core CPUs, 512 KB of Flash memory, 128 KB of SRAM, 128 KB of ROM, and seven serial communication blocks (SCBs) are included in the EZ-USB FX20’s configuration.

It also has a high-bandwidth data subsystem that allows Direct Memory Access (DMA) data transfers at up to 20 Gbps between LVDS/LVCMOS and USB ports in addition to an accelerator for cryptography.

An extra 1 MB of SRAM is used for USB data buffering, which supports data transfer as well. No external circuitry is needed because the peripheral controller incorporates flip-mux and USB-C port orientation detection. The EZ-USB FX20 is the perfect option for developers that need a strong and versatile USB controller because of all these characteristics.

Key Comments

“With the growing popularity of USB devices, the demand for compatible and adaptable USB controllers is increasing,” said Ganesh Subramaniam, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Wired Connectivity Solutions Product Line at Infineon. “Therefore, we are continuously improving the features and performance of our EZ-USB peripheral controllers and are pleased to support developers with our new addition to the product family, providing them with a flexible component to create powerful and advanced applications.”Infineon EZ-USB FX20 USB Peripheral Controller for AI The Colt POst
