Ericsson’s industry-leading portfolio will be strengthened by the R&D expansion in India, helping to shape the future with programmable networks that perform well.

Ericsson has played a significant role in forming India’s telecom environment, including mobile connectivity, for more than 120 years.

From establishing the foundation for GSM services in 1994 to assisting with the transition to 5G, the company initiated its India 6G program in 2024 by establishing an India 6G Research Team at its R&D Center in Chennai.

Ericsson invests over USD 5 billion in research and development every year worldwide, which helps to solidify the company’s technological leadership in 5G and next-generation products and solutions.

With research and development facilities in Chennai, Bengaluru, and Gurugram, India, Ericsson operates in the telecom sectors of transport, packet core, OSS, BSS, cloud, and advanced artificial intelligence.

Nitin Bansal, Managing Director, Ericsson India, says: “Expanding our ASIC R&D in India will enable us to leverage the local technology competence in the country towards enhancing our capabilities in semiconductor design.
