EPC’s EPC91202 Delivers 150kHz GaN Motor Control Breakthrough

THE VOLT VOTES

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) just launched the EPC91202 evaluation board, a fully integrated three-phase BLDC motor-drive inverter designed to slash development time for high-efficiency motor drives in robotics, e-mobility, drones, industrial automation, and battery-powered systems.

Built around the EPC2361 100 V eGaN® FET, it delivers 70 A peak (50 ARMS) continuous current and handles PWM frequencies up to 150 kHz.

This results quieter operation, better torque-per-amp efficiency than silicon alternatives, and a smaller, cheaper DC link.

What really sets it apart is everything else packed onboard, like the gate drivers, housekeeping power, precision current/voltage/temperature sensing, and full protection circuitry. Engineers can go from box to spinning motor in minutes, not months.

It runs cleanly on 14-76 V inputs perfect for battery systems and supports both sensorless and encoder-based control. With optimized dv/dt (<10 V/ns), it cuts EMI, motor noise, and torque ripple, making it ideal for precision motion applications.

Quick Specs:

  • EPC2361 eGaN® 3-phase inverter
  • 70 A peak / 50 ARMS phase current
  • 14-76 V input range
  • 150 kHz switching frequency
  • Onboard sensing + overcurrent/undervoltage protection
  • Encoder & Hall sensor interfaces
  • Low-noise switching optimized for motors

Compatible with major microcontroller platforms, it unlocks advanced techniques like field-oriented control (FOC) and space-vector PWM. Full design files (schematics, BOM, Gerbers) are ready on the product page.

Target applications include humanoid robot joints, compact servos, drones, and e-mobility platforms. If you’re designing next-gen motor drives, this board will save you serious time.

EPC EPC91202 GaN BLDC Inverter Evaluation Board The Volt PostLeadership Comment

“The EPC91202 demonstrates how GaN technology transforms motor drive performance,” said Alex Lidow, CEO and co-founder of EPC. “By combining high switching speed, low losses, and integrated sensing, designers can dramatically increase power density while simplifying development and reducing system cost.”

Price and Availability

The EPC91202 reference design board is priced at $500. Reference design boards and devices are available for immediate delivery from Digi-Key and Mouser.
