New Emerson Safety Controller Enables Seamless Integration, Functionality

The new PACSystems RX3i CPS400 Safety Controller from Emerson is intended to facilitate Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2) plans for burner management systems, fire and gas, infrastructure, and other emergency shutdown systems. Whether onboard a single piece of equipment or dispersed throughout a much larger process, OEMs and systems integrators require a variety of more potent hardware and software products to ensure compliance with standards and regulations for worker protection as project automation grows more complex and data-driven.

A wide variety of mission-critical applications can be supported by the PACSystems Safety Controller thanks to its scalable digital architecture and high 64-megabyte memory capacity.

The RX3i CPS400 controller is ready to connect peer-to-peer and with higher level hosts using built-in industrial communications protocols, such as OPC UA, Ethernet Global Data (EGD), and Modbus TCP, offering full operational visibility.

The new controller offers strict data integrity and defense against any threats as a secure-by-design solution that integrates Secure Boot® and the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) standard. In compliance with the IEC 61511 standard, pre-configured templates and safety-certified function blocks streamline total system certification.

Standardized and reliable connectivity with Emerson’s PACSystems VersaMaxTM SafetyNet I/O system is made possible by the RX3i CPS400 controller, which is available in simplex or redundant controller configurations.

It can handle all safety data messaging with duplex communications using the black channel principle over EGD. The platform offers a functional SIL2 simplified solution to assist designers in creating suitable protection schemes and is IEC 61508 safety-certified.

Using well-known software tools used for operator interfaces, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and other automation components—specifically, Emerson’s PAC Machine Edition development environment—developers may set up the new controller.
