The AC adapter for MSI’s products, including gaming laptops, has adopted ROHM EcoGaN power stage IC. The AC adapter incorporates ROHM’s EcoGaN power stage IC “BM3G005MUV-LB,” which has low ON resistance and high-speed switching operation. It was created by Delta Electronics, a world leader in power management solutions.

This partnership allows for significant size reduction and energy savings as compared to traditional adapters, thanks to Delta’s superior power supply design experience and cutting-edge energy-efficient power management technology.
The AC adapters Delta designed for MSI products can provide high power output and sustain peak output for a predetermined amount of time because of the incorporation of the EcoGaN power stage IC. This guarantees steady power delivery even in high-load situations, which are common in gaming scenarios that demand great performance.
The power consumption of gaming laptops has increased as they continue to develop with more potent GPUs and CPUs. This trend necessitates AC adapters that can match customer expectations for portability through downsizing while offering high power.
GaN devices, recognized for their low ON resistance and high-speed switching characteristics, are garnering interest for their ability to increase power supply efficiency and reduce the size of peripheral components such as inductors.
By combining a 650V GaN HEMT, gate driver, protection features, and peripheral components into a single package, ROHM’s power stage IC maximizes GaN HEMT performance simply by substituting traditional silicon MOSFETs.
