In order to enable the refinery to process a greater variety of crude and double the production capacity at Africa’s largest refinery in Lekki, Nigeria by 2028, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE has chosen Honeywell to provide cutting-edge technology, services, and proprietary catalysts and equipment.

Over the next three years, Dangote will raise its refining capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day by utilizing Honeywell’s refining and petrochemical processing solutions, which assist customers in lowering production costs, increasing efficiency, and increasing throughput.
Dangote’s development will make it the largest petroleum refinery in the world, boosting domestic fuel production, lowering dependency on imports, and meeting regional energy security demands.
Honeywell has been supplying Dangote’s Lekki refinery with process technologies for almost ten years. In the future, this expansion project will allow it to make the most of the infrastructure and equipment already in place, offering the highest return on investment, shortening the project’s timetable, and ultimately speeding it to market.
In order to manufacture 750,000 metric tons of propylene annually, Dangote will also license Honeywell’s Oleflex technology, which uses catalytic dehydrogenation to convert propane to propylene. With this deal, the refinery will produce 2.4 million metric tons of polypropylene annually, which is the main ingredient in many plastic products, including packaging materials.
The largest single-train refinery in the world, the Lekki complex produces jet fuel, diesel, and gasoline of Euro-V standard in addition to polypropylene, a key ingredient in plastics and packaging.
With over a century of experience in the energy industry, Honeywell has licenses its process technologies and catalysts to over 6,000 refineries and industrial sites worldwide.
