Daanaa Resolution has announced the Power Transaction Unit (PTU), a revolutionary method for ultra-high voltage conversion ratio power converters that can be programmed in real time.
The PTU in a compact module provides more than 95% power conversion efficiency throughout a one-decade operational range, with a voltage conversion ratio of more than 110 times. The PTU is a bidirectional, multimodal (AC/DC) device with dynamically adjustable output amplitude and phase.
It helps Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in automotive, solar energy, high-performance computing, and other industries to create highly energy-efficient systems while lowering engineering and operational costs.
The growing need for electricity, fueled by households, businesses, AI, and vehicle electrification, necessitates efficient energy conversion. Renewable energy sources, such as solar cells and batteries, produce low-voltage DC outputs (often less than 4V), whereas most applications demand steady high-voltage AC (240V) or DC (12V-800V).
Traditional power conversion approaches use multi-stage topologies and serialized energy sources, resulting in inefficiencies, compounding losses, cascading failures, and increased system complexity.
Unlike traditional multi-stage systems, Daanaa’s Power Transaction Unit supports parallel connections, increasing resilience while minimizing losses. Its real-time programmability responds to changing factors such as sunlight and environmental conditions, battery state of charge (SOC), and battery state of health (SOH), ensuring stable and optimum power transfer.
Daanaa increases efficiency, simplifies system design, and lowers engineering, operational, and maintenance costs by combining several power functions into a single, small module.
Key Benefits
- Efficiency:
The PTU delivers high power conversion efficiency with real-time programmable outputs to maximize subsystem performance. In solar applications, built-in maximum power point tracking (MPPT) optimizes power generation, even under rapidly changing conditions like fluctuating sunlight. - Adaptability:
The PTU senses and maintains consistent output voltage levels independent of SOC or SOH, and supports various battery types (e.g., different sizes and chemistries). Multiple PTUs can be connected in parallel and controlled independently in real time, enabling dynamic load balancing in response to changing conditions. - Resiliency:
Each PTUincludes built-in monitoring and diagnostics, enabling fine-grained problem isolation and minimizing downtime. PTUs can be connected in parallel to build redundancy into the system. - Engineering & Design Efficiency:
By eliminating multiple conversion stages, PTUs reduce space, components, and costs while simplifying engineering. They also provide design flexibility and ensure modularity and scalability. - Operational Efficiency:
The simplified architecture streamlines inventory management and optimizes the supply chain, enabling efficient and cost-effective operations.
PTU Development System Available for Evaluation
Customers can evaluate the PTU’s capabilities using Daanaa’s development system, which links to photovoltaic modules and batteries to show the technology’s potential for solar and energy storage applications.
BIPV and VIPV encounter difficulties in improving solar energy output due to irregular surfaces, dynamic shading, and complicated power electronics.
The PTU’s short-cell substring method adapts to uneven surfaces, while per-substring DC tuning and ultra-fast MPPT increase energy harvest even in dynamic shade situations.
Real-time configuration enables dynamic control of the output to a load
The PTU also improves battery performance. In electric vehicles, it extends range by 10%, increases motor power by more than 40%, and lowers charge time by more than 50% without changing the number of battery cells.
The development system consists of an enclosed module with input and output connectors for convenient integration with sources, loads, and measurement instruments. It accepts low-voltage DC inputs of 3V-6.7V and outputs 380V-800V DC or 240VAC depending on the settings.
