Market’s First MIPI A-PHY Platform for Embedded Vision

According to Valens Semiconductor, D3 Embedded’s complete camera-to-processor MIPI A-PHY architecture relies on its chipsets as its primary connectivity solution. The platform introduces the first product-ready solution for embedded vision systems that uses the high-performance A-PHY communication standard.

Longer link distances, unmatched EMI resilience, and the capacity to function over basic, inexpensive cable are just a few of the special advantages that D3’s customers can enjoy thanks to the A-PHY platform.

D3 Embedded provides eight A-PHY input ports and an NVIDIA Jetson Orin processor (NX or Nano) on the computation side of the platform. Each port on the platform runs at 8Gbps (7.2Gbps net), and an industrial, fanless enclosure is a possibility. Based on the Sony ISX031 sensor, D3 Embedded offers six A-PHY DesignCore Discovery Series SKUs for cameras.

For the best defense against dust, fluids, and chemicals, each camera has the option of a ruggedized IP69K casing. For use in challenging conditions, the IP69K camera has a detachable lens cover that is anti-reflective coated and scratch-resistant. If a customer requests it, D3 Embedded can also create custom cameras based on additional sensors.

Excellent Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) performance is provided by the MIPI A-PHY standard, guaranteeing reliable data transfer even in industrial settings with high electrical noise levels.

Furthermore, high-speed data transmission across lengthy cables—up to 30 meters and beyond—is made possible by chipsets based on A-PHY technology without compromising signal quality. Additionally, these chips provide multi-gig connectivity via micro-coaxial and Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cabling, allowing system designers to adjust mechanical requirements, weight, and cost to suit their particular application needs.

Last but not least, A-PHY-based chipsets include integrated sophisticated diagnostics for link monitoring and preventive maintenance, guaranteeing system functionality around-the-clock.

Because of these benefits, A-PHY-based chipsets are perfect for a variety of applications where long-range, high-performance, and reasonably priced connection is crucial, such as industrial vehicles, medical imaging, robotics/AMR, and industrial automation.

D3 Embedded camera-to-processor platform adopt ValensLeadership Comments

“D3 Embedded’s comprehensive camera-to-processor platform is a practical, ready-to-deploy solution that significantly lowers the barrier to entry for companies looking to adopt A-PHY in their embedded vision systems,” said Gili Friedman, Head of the Cross-Industry Business Unit at Valens Semiconductor. “Valens sees significant demand for MIPI A-PHY in this market, and we look forward to seeing how this collaboration between our companies will lead to broad adoption of A-PHY, changing the way embedded vision and AI systems are deployed across industries.”

“A-PHY’s ability to deliver high-speed data over long distances with exceptional electromagnetic compatibility is a game-changer for the industry,” said Scott Reardon, CEO of D3 Embedded. “Investing in this technology was crucial because it addresses the key challenges our customers face – reliable connectivity in harsh environments and simplified system design, including the industry’s first ever use of Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) channels for multi-gig use cases. By building this platform around MIPI A-PHY and partnering with Valens Semiconductor, we’re giving developers a powerful, flexible toolset to accelerate innovation in embedded vision.”
