Cyient Semiconductors declared that it has been awarded a crucial contract to supply and qualify technical IPs, including design enablement, for the ?4,500-crore modernization initiative at the Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL), Mohali.

The Government of India’s goals under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), which aims to increase local semiconductor capabilities, lessen dependency on imports, and establish accessible fabrication capacity for startups, academics, and strategic sectors, are supported by this modernization program.
By modernizing the process technology platforms that will support the new fab, Cyient Semiconductors is expected to directly contribute to these objectives.
For SCL’s enhanced 8-inch manufacturing line, Cyient Semiconductors will provide and qualify three fundamental process technologies: RF-CMOS, BCD (HV LDMOS), and CMOS Image Sensor (CIS).
These technologies are crucial to enhancing the significance and usefulness of India’s mature-node semiconductor capacity and are widely employed in the industrial, automotive, energy, sensing, and connectivity domains.
The project, which covers the full chip lifecycle from specification to silicon fabrication, is a significant turning point in Cyient Semiconductors’ development into India’s leading turnkey ASIC supplier.
This demonstrates Cyient Semiconductors’ strategy emphasis on high-growth markets, such as application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and smart energy semiconductors.
Cyient Semiconductors will make it possible for SCL to serve a greater variety of applications in the future by being eligible for these new technology platforms.
These could include low-power wireless or Internet of Things devices, smart energy and metering solutions, some automotive electronics classes, industrial control systems, image and sensing technologies, and other areas where an improved mature-node method might eventually be useful.
Leadership Comments
“Being technically qualified for this strategic project is a proud moment for Cyient Semiconductors and a strong validation of our engineering depth, IP portfolio, and turnkey execution capabilities. Our collaboration with SCL will accelerate India’s semiconductor self-reliance by delivering highly relevant, high-value silicon solutions in digital, analog mixed signal and power domains, areas that continue to see massive global demand,” said Krishna Bodanapu, Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Cyient Limited.
“We are proud to have been qualified for this critical part of SCL’s modernization. RF-CMOS, BCD (HV LDMOS), and CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) are areas where our teams have a deep strength, and this program enables us to leverage that capability for a national mission. We see this as both a responsibility and an opportunity to help strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem,” said, Suman Narayan, CEO, Cyient Semiconductors.
