Continental’s tagline for this year’s IAA Transportation, which takes place from September 17 to 22, is “From Road to Cloud!” The technology company will showcase its extensive range of commercial vehicle solutions in Hanover, Germany. Innovative truck and bus tires and air springs that boost sustainability and efficiency in the transportation sector are among them, as are state-of-the-art hardware like high-performance computers (HPC); software and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) functions that define the vehicle of the future; and comprehensive services that increase safety and compliance.

Continental will present its broad portfolio of commercial vehicle solutions, enabling the software-defined truck.

Additionally on exhibit at IAA Transportation is a development truck that was assembled in association with Aurora, a business partner, and has several innovations for the autonomous commercial vehicle of the future. Visitors to the trade show can experience Continental’s most recent solutions for commercial vehicles and the transportation sector at booth C41 in hall 12  during the IAA Transportation, where they can also meet the professionals behind these solutions in person.

Enabling Intelligent Services And Software-Defined Vehicles

In response to the demand for increased efficiency, the transportation sector is quickly going digital. Continental facilitates the utilization of real-time data-driven services that boost process automation and efficiency, save costs and downtimes, and adhere to regulatory standards through its seamless connection functions and software-defined architectures.

At IAA Transportation 2024, Continental Will Present:

  • Modern HPCs and software, combined with a whole ecosystem that extends from the road to the cloud, make it possible for autonomous driving and software-defined vehicles (SDVs). These consist of a cross-domain zone control unit, which combines the power supply for ADAS and cockpit components, and a high-performance computer for the commercial vehicle cockpit.
  • The tech company at IAA Transportation will also present its Automotive Edge framework, or CAEdge, a cloud-based development environment that makes it easier to design and test vehicle software quickly, safely, and effectively. The company is actively collaborating with many OEMs on pre-development projects to create the commercial vehicle architecture of the future, and CAEdge serves as the foundation for these initiatives.

  • Two new versions of Continental’s ContiConnect digital tire management solutions will be on display at IAA Transportation in Hanover, among the intelligent services that leverage real-time data to boost process automation and efficiency. ContiConnect Lite is a mobile-only solution that enables users to swiftly and affordably take advantage of the many benefits of data-supported tire monitoring.
  • Bluetooth is used to send tire sensor data. Additionally, there is ContiConnect Pro, a full solution for digital tire management and prediction services that offers alarms, a web portal and mobile app for data presentation, and a thorough overview of the fleets’ tire health.

Improving Road Transport Sustainability

There is greater pressure than ever on the road transportation sector to become more environmentally and socially conscious. Rising fuel costs, new laws, and growing public awareness all contribute to this. With material-driven innovations based on 150 years of experience with rubber and synthetics, Continental is leading the ongoing transformation of fleets and automakers towards a healthy ecosystem for sustainable mobility. These innovations create value for all parties involved, both economically and environmentally.

Continental will demonstrate in-person at IAA Transportation 2024 how it applies material expertise to help the transportation sector lessen its environmental effect, such as through the use of Tough RuNR air springs. The material specialists of the firm have replaced synthetic rubber in this product with natural rubber that has been enhanced by a high-performance ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM). In doing so, the carbon backpack of the rubber compound is decreased by more than 50% without compromising product performance.

Additionally, Continental will emphasize how future air spring environmental impacts may be positively impacted by using recycled materials, making products more recyclable, or using bio-based components. Innovative technical solutions for new energy vehicles (NEVs), such as thermal management for hydrogen- and battery-powered vehicles, are also on exhibit. The newest bus tire from Continental is in the pre-series stage. It has an extremely low rolling resistance, a large percentage of certified recyclable, renewable, and mass-balanced components, and it is EV compatible.

Empowering Autonomous Transport Solutions

Major global supply chain issues like the continuous driver scarcity might be lessened by autonomous technology, which has the ability to improve road safety and boost the efficiency of commodities transportation. With its extensive sensor portfolio and ADAS solutions, which are essential components for automated operations and driverless cars, Continental is steadily advancing the commercialization of autonomous technology. Continental and Aurora have formed an exclusive agreement to build the world’s first scalable Level 4 autonomous trucking system, with plans to begin production in 2027.

The CO2 footprint of the rubber compound is more than 50 percent lower with Tough RuNR air springs than with comparable products.

At IAA Transportation 2024, Continental will go into further detail about how it is working with Aurora to design and produce a large-scale, automotive-grade Level 4 autonomous system. Continental will unveil the new industrial fallback system later this year, having earlier this year finalized the design and architecture of the Aurora Driver hardware and a future fallback system. It is a specialized backup system that can take over in the event that something goes wrong with the main system, such a broken or malfunctioning sensor or important component.

Supporting Road Transport Safety

Road safety is a major problem in a society where transportation needs are rising. From radar sensors, cameras, and safety systems to intelligent and connected compliance devices, the company is dedicated to offering OEMs turnkey solutions that make their trucks compliant for European roads, even as governments and regulatory bodies continue to impose stricter safety standards and regulations for commercial road transport.

In this regard, two intelligent global tachograph solutions—the plug-and-play VDO Link and the smart tachograph (V2) DTCO 4.1—will be featured in Continental’s exhibition. These solutions will help to enforce the EU Mobility Package’s regulations and provide safe and dependable data services, thereby increasing safety. Also available to visitors to Continental’s exhibit is a brand-new truck tire that combines exceptional braking performance with the market’s highest energy economy.
