The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the top telecom research and development center of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, has inked a deal with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) to develop “Building Blocks for THz Communication Front Ends” for 6G as part of the ongoing effort to develop domestic hardware for the next-generation telecommunications technology.
The deal was signed in accordance with the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India’s Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) 6G Call for Proposals.
As part of the Bharat 6G goal to design, develop, and implement 6G network technologies that offer ubiquitous intelligent and secure connectivity for a high-quality living experience, this request for proposals aims to speed research on establishing the 6G Eco-system.
This project’s goal is to build the fundamental tools and parts needed for THz systems envisioned for 6G communications, as well as additional THz systems like material characterisation and military communications.
In collaboration with SAMEER (Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research) in Kolkata, this project is being started to create some of the basic components at IIT Delhi facilities in light of the current program on the establishment of chip fabrication facilities in India. The production-level fabrication of THz components will follow naturally from this study. The project’s implementing agency is C-DOT.
The CEO of C-DOT, Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, the principal investigator from IIT Delhi, Prof. Ananjan Basuthe, and the directors of C-DOT, Ms. Shikha Srivastava and Dr. Pankaj Kumar Dalela, were present at the signing event.
Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT, said that by encouraging innovation and opening the door for ground-breaking developments in communication technology, this is a major step towards the Prime Minister’s Bharat 6G Vision. He reaffirmed that the results of this partnership will be revolutionary.
Professor Basu stressed that his team is totally dedicated to helping develop next-generation communication 6G technology. He also thanked C-DOT for this research collaboration opportunity, which furthers the goal of advancing state-of-the-art research infrastructure and capabilities in the telecom industry under “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
