ANRITSU CORPORATION reports that, using Samsung’s NR NTN modem chipset, its New Radio RF Conformance Test System “ME7873NR” has received PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB) certification for the first time*A in test cases related to non-terrestrial networks (NR NTN) utilizing 5G technology.

The NTN is a communication system that integrates satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), and geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) to combine satellite communication and airborne technologies with terrestrial infrastructure.
Non-Terrestrial Networks have been included into the 5G New Radio (NR) standards with the introduction of “NR NTN” in 3GPP Release 17. This development opens the door for global 5G coverage beyond traditional infrastructure by enabling 5G devices to connect to satellites using the same protocols as terrestrial base stations.
The official start of the NTN device certification process is marked by the PTCRB definition of NR NTN testing. In order to improve service quality and increase coverage, network operators around the world are anticipated to actively deploy NR NTN in the future. By offering certification test systems, Anritsu will assist in promoting the adoption of NTN devices.
Product Overview
The Global Certification Forum (GCF) and PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB) have certified the ME7873NR as a 5G RF conformance test platform that complies with 3GPP.
Frequency Range 1 (FR1, Sub-6 GHz) is supported out of the box, and Frequency Range 2 (FR2, mmWave) is added when it is combined with an OTA (CATR) chamber*.
