In partnership with HEAD Acoustics, ANRITSU CORPORATION announced the release of an advanced acoustic evaluation solution for next-generation vehicle emergency call systems (“NG eCall”).

Faster and more efficient emergency response is made possible by the new solution, which complies with ITU-T Recommendation P.1140 and allows for precise assessment of voice communication quality between vehicle occupants and Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs).
Ensuring high-quality, low-latency voice communication during vehicle emergencies has become crucial as NG eCall over 4G (LTE) and 5G (NR) will be required in Europe on January 1, 2026.
Calls are made hands-free inside the vehicle cabin after an accident, where loud noises, echoes, and other acoustic issues can seriously degrade speech clarity. For the purpose of accurately communicating the situation and facilitating quick rescue operations, reliable voice performance is consequently essential.
The solution integrates HEAD Acoustics’ ACQUA voice quality analysis platform with Anritsu’s MD8475B (for 4G LTE base-station simulation) or MT8000A (for both 4G LTE and 5G NR simulation). This combination allows for a thorough assessment of both received (speaker) and transmitted (microphone) audio under a variety of realistic operating conditions.
Example Evaluation Scenarios
• Echo and double-talk situations where speaker output re-enters the microphone or simultaneous speech may affect intelligibility
• Cabin noise simulations representing real driving environments, including road, wind, and engine noise
By delivering a reliable and repeatable approach to voice-quality assessment, Anritsu reinforces its commitment to supporting automotive manufacturers and suppliers in the development of NG eCall and advanced in-vehicle audio systems, contributing to a safer and more secure mobility ecosystem.
