For GMSL-Based Systems, R&S Now Provides Expanded Test Capabilities

Analog Devices (ADI) and Rohde & Schwarz have worked together to provide a range of tests for Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link (GMSL) devices. A cost-effective, scalable, and simple SerDes solution, ADI’s Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link technology enhances performance for high-speed video links, which are mostly utilized in automobile Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI).ADI, Rohde & Schwarz GMSL devices, SerDes for ADAS, IVI the volt post

Engineers, developers, and manufacturers will be able to quickly design and implement GMSL-based ADAS and IVI systems with this partnership.

In compliance with GMSL regulations, Rohde & Schwarz has now included the capability to conduct Physical Medium Attachment (PMA) tests. The solution provides a wide range of signal integrity tools and is fully incorporated into the firmware of the Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscope.

Among these tools are LiveEye, which enables sophisticated jitter and noise analysis as well as real-time signal behavior monitoring. It also has integrated eye covers for both the forward and reverse channels.

The approach uses the R&S RTP oscilloscope‘s robust built-in spectrum analysis to confirm narrowband crosstalk. Additionally, Rohde & Schwarz’s vector network analyzers can be used to characterize cables, connectors, and channels.

Because GMSL technology can reliably transfer high-resolution digital video for camera and display-based applications, it is becoming an increasingly important component of automotive applications, including as safety, monitoring, infotainment, and autonomy.

Balagopal Mayampurath, Vice President of ADI’s GMSL Technology Group said, “It is significant that GMSL is adopted by several OEMs and Tier-1s, making it a de facto video connectivity standard in the automotive industry. The tests from Rohde & Schwarz expedite the process for customers to build and deliver GMSL-based solutions and they are critical in supporting the automotive ecosystem.”

The application will be demonstrated at CES 2025 in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10, 2024, at booth 3366 in the West Hall.
