Rohde & Schwarz, Qualcomm Pioneer FR3 Breakthroughs for 6G Evolution

In the intended FR3 frequency range, at 13 GHz, Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. have successfully verified the high-throughput performance of a 5G NR connection. This milestone opens the door for the next generation of wireless networks, which the two firms will jointly demonstrate at MWC 2025 Barcelona.

For upcoming 6G wireless networks, Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. have shown that the suggested FR3 frequency range (7.125 GHz to 24.25 GHz) is feasible.

The two companies worked together to successfully evaluate the performance of Qualcomm Technologies’ 5G mobile test platform (MTP) at 13 GHz, a frequency band that falls within the intended FR3 range, utilizing the CMX500 5G one-box signaling tester (OBT) in a maximum throughput use scenario.

This accomplishment validates FR3’s ability to provide high data rates through the use of expanded capacity utilizing 4×4 MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) technology and high modulation and coding schemes (MCS).

The CMX500 OBT, a multi-channel, multi-technology, future-proof one-box signaling tester from Rohde & Schwarz, serves as the foundation for the test configuration. Because of its adaptability to various NR numerologies, it is the best option for FR3 research and development.

The CMX500 OBT is utilized in this presentation in order to:

  • Create a signaling environment by transmitting an FR3 cell signal at 13 GHz, simulating real-world conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis, verifying the device’s ability to achieve maximum throughput in the FR3 frequency range, ensuring reliable and efficient operation.
