NetApp Unified Storage, NVIDIA AI to Create Data into Knowledge

To fuel the next generation of agentic AI applications, meet the NetApp new generative AI data vision and end-to-end integrated solutions that combine NetApp intelligent data infrastructure for enterprise retrieval augmented generation (RAG) with NVIDIA AI software and accelerated computing.Agentic AI Future with NetApp Data Management, NVIDIA AI

In an official statement, NetApp states that these new features will enable the NetApp ONTAP unified storage operating system to unify data stores for the tens of thousands of enterprises that rely on NetApp for their data infrastructure.

This is achieved by utilizing a new NetApp global metadata namespace . In order to power RAG capabilities that can utilize a business’s whole data estate and accelerate the development of next-generation agentic AI applications, it opens up exabytes of enterprise data that are stored across clouds and on-premises infrastructure.

The Power of NVIDIA NeMo Retriever and NIM Microservices

The solution combines NVIDIA NeMo Retriever and NIM microservices, which are components of the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform, with the tried-and-true NetApp AIPod architecture, NetApp ONTAP, and the NetApp BlueXP unified control plane.

Customers of NetApp will find it easier to find, search for, and curate data on-premises and in the public cloud by using the new NetApp AI capabilities integrated into NetApp AIPod, which is certified for NVIDIA DGX BasePOD infrastructure and NVIDIA OVX solutions and is managed through BlueXP. This is all while adhering to the policy-based governance criteria that are currently in place.

After establishing the data collecting process using NetApp BlueXP, the dataset can be dynamically connected to NVIDIA NeMo Retriever. Here, it will undergo processing and vectorization to make it suitable for enterprise GenAI deployments, complete with privacy safeguards and proper access restrictions.

In order to power next-generation agentic AI applications that can independently and securely access data to perform a wide range of tasks to support customer service, company operations, financial services, and more, this lays the groundwork for a generative AI flywheel.

Through responsible preservation of security and policy boundaries across the AI data and model lifetime, the end-to-end integration unleashes enterprise data for AI. Huang initially mentioned this integration as a proof-of-concept during his keynote speech at NVIDIA GTC 2024. Customers will be able to test out this safe and legal GenAI integration today at NetApp INSIGHT, and later in the year, it will be made available to them as a technical preview.

NVIDIA Certification Process for NetApp ONTAP Storage

Moreover, NetApp has started the NVIDIA certification process for NetApp ONTAP storage on the AFF A90 platform with NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD.

This will let businesses use the best data management capabilities in the industry for their biggest AI initiatives. The current NVIDIA DGX BasePOD certification held by NetApp ONTAP will be strengthened and complemented by this new certification.

Large language model data management issues are resolved by NetApp ONTAP, which removes the need to sacrifice data management for workloads including AI training.
